Pound Candle Pound Candle

Materials:

* 1 waxed carton (quart) (milk, fabric softener, or orange juice)
* 1 pound of paraffin wax
* 4 or 5 old crayons
* Two ice cube trays
* A water bath (or empty coffee can and a saucepan)
* 1 piece of ordinary white package string about six inches long.

Caution: Do not heat paraffin directly over the burner. The wax is highly flammable. Use a bath or two pounds of coffee can set in a pan of water. I put the coffee can on top of home canning jar rings (rings, not flat top). If the box is not established on top of something, The concave bottom creates a vacuum that water begins to heat up more if in the bottom of the pan, it's just that much closer to the burner.

Trim top of the container so that what remains is about six inches high.

Cut the string so that is six inches long. (To make a wick that lasts longer time, try braiding three pieces of string together.)

Melt the wax over medium heat in a water bath or a coffee in a pan of water. Fourths of use Three of a book for a few small candle or use all four squares for a larger candle. When the water begins to boil, it will take 10 or 15 minutes to melt the paraffin.

Break the crayons into small pieces and add to the paraffin. If the bars are added before the wax melts, the color is hard to see if all the wax liquefies.

Use a pair of tongs (a scissors works, too), and dip the string into the paraffin. Immersion chain will ensure that you are covered with paraffin because the ice in May to prevent some sections of contact with the liquid wax. Hold the rope so that it is in the center of the box and fill the box with cubes ice. Pour the hot paraffin over the ice cubes.

The sail is set at about 30 minutes. Let's sail an hour or two until most of the cubes melted ice. Pour water. Remove the cartridge. Place the candle in a drawer or on a plate to collect the remaining water to ice cubes, and to finish melting. Let dry during the sail a day or two.

The candles that I made with a single piece of string to burn for an hour or two to burn fast enough for most the paraffin remains intact. To use the paraffin again, melt the candle wax and poured into containers to make solid candles.

~ ~ Solid Candles

To make solid candles, select several glass containers. Jars pint or half pint of preserves or jelly works well. For the wick, measure chain a few inches more, as needed to reach the bottom of the container. Tie the string around a pencil. Place a pencil at the top of the container to keep the wick in place. When the paraffin is melted and colored pencil, pour the liquid wax into the container (s). When you set sail, Cut the wick to half inch above the wax.

Scented candles ~ ~

To make scented candles, put three or four teaspoons of vanilla extract in the bottom of the boiler double (or coffee can) and then add the paraffin and crayons. When the wax is melted, pour into containers.
